Threshold

The following is the description of the city of Threshold, the city nearest to Restwell Keep.  It’s where the party has spent the second largest amount of their time.  They even have a house there now.  In game terms, it is a Class IV market.

This session ended up being the first one without Rage Claw and Lilith, as their last session was the previous one (the player’s wife had a baby so that was that).  The two took their share of the treasure and built a house in the pale outside of Threshold.  They may come back, we’ll see.

The tension simmered for a few moments between Rage Claw and Long Tom, but eventually things calmed down and the Nar just turned from the captured wizard in disgust.

The players debated on what to do with Otho, and took her gag off to ask her a few questions.  She cut to the point thusly:

“What do you guys want to let me walk?  You are adventurers, you want money.  I know where you can find lots of it.  Let’s talk.”

We picked up where we left off, except I retconned a little.  I had the familiar with Loremastery warn them that the lizardmen were almost certainly infected with lycanthropy.  They debated for a few moments but ultimately decided (thanks to White Scar asking) to let the tribe take the chance with them.  So they healed them up and then escorted them from the dungeon.

We picked up right where we left off.  The party continued went back to the room with the metal skeleton and continued across the opposite set of tunnels heading north and west.  The party traveled forward, letting the dwarf and lizards go ahead of the party out ahead of the torch bearing group.  Traveling to the end of the tunnel, they were surprised when two large trapdoor spiders burst out of the ground and tried to grab Rage Claw and Grimnor.  Grimnor was bitten, but his dwarven constitution shrugged off the poison.  The lizards and dwarf proceeded to beat the spiders quickly down.  Down in the pit, they saw there might be some stuff in the nest of the spiders, so Long Tom hopped down and lashed a rope around the corpses.

When we picked up the next session, Kenan-Tal’s player wasn’t available, so we decided he and Bruna went back to the camp to check on the prisoners and make sure the mercenaries they hired were ok.

Meanwhile, the group decided to unspike the western door and go explore the prison cells.  At the end of the hallway, they found a door they hadn’t explored, but as they approached it, they heard the sound of a roaring monster.  They became defensive, waiting for the monster to rush out of the room and attack them.  When nothing but sound came from the door they waited, trying to see if the sound was on a ‘loop’, but it kept going.  Finally, Rage Claw and the rest burst into the room only to find it empty.  A brief check revealed no invisible foes or other immediate threats.

When Rage Claw joined the rest of the group, they hadn’t done much.  They investigated the doors that they found on the walkway.  Over what appeared to be the main gate into the stone were several thick metal bars, covered in heavy chains, built into the rocks themselves.  It appeared that the gate was barred from the outside.  The eastern door showed evidence of a three foot thick stone gate that was slid up into the roof, behind which two doors stood open.

Whatever this place was, it was built to be locked down tightly.

Not a lot happened in this session.  The pcs had a lot of ‘accounting work’ to do (the only downside of ACKS; (B/X really) ruthless attention to detail when it comes to money).  How much in the bank, what supplies do they need, etc.  There was a lot of back and forth over what direction they should go in.  They had the letter that pointed to a larger, dangerous conspiracy, but in a solo session, Rage Claw and Lilith discovered (by using Speak with Animals to talk to a giant rat) a goblin lair that needed to be cleaned out.  It took a lot of debate before they finally settled on what to do.

This is what I see when they talk to animals…somehow they all end up becoming anthropomorphic. And bad ass.

Sundered Empires Session Report 10a-The Letter

Ranshin,

Your efforts in the north are proceeding nicely.  None noticed us leave Threshold, they are so preoccupied with the cut off trade.

Their greed will ever be their downfall.

I have made contact with our men in Restwell.  Their activities on the border are tying up what few forces remain here.  Restwell is strong, but given time, it will fall.  Their allies have contacted the wyrm and we may forge an alliance soon.

Those pretenders must remain preoccupied and their eyes elsewhere.  The weapon is buried in Dalagar, just as we were told.  The cultists provided me the last bit of evidence I needed to locate it’s final resting place.  If only the weaklings in Dalagar had had the strength to activate the weapon when the time was right… well, things would have been different, wouldn’t they?

By the time you read this, I will hopefully have made north with an expedition to excavate the entrance.  It will undoubtedly be trapped and protected, so it may well take me a few weeks to secure the location.  Just a little while longer, you only need to hold out for a month, maybe two.

Then we can be together and return to His side.

By the will of the Undying,

Otho
